Interested in biomaterials, but not sure what you’ll gain from participating in the SFB Annual Meeting?
If you’re curious about biomaterials but not sure what you’ll gain from attending the SFB Annual Meeting, think of it as your chance to dive into the field and see what excites you most. You’ll hear about the latest breakthroughs, connect with leading researchers and industry professionals, and discover career paths you might not have considered. It’s also a great opportunity to share your own ideas, build your professional network, and meet other students who share your interests. Whether you’re just starting out or already focused on biomaterials, you’ll leave inspired and better prepared for your next steps.
Are you a first time attendee and not sure where to start? Here are some Pro-Tips!
- Plan Ahead – Review the program and mark the sessions, workshops, social events, and posters you don’t want to miss. Having a schedule will help you balance learning, networking, and downtime.
- Introduce Yourself – Start conversations with presenters, professionals, and fellow students. A simple “Hi, I’m [Name], I’m a student at [University]” goes a long way. Everyone is here because they’re excited about biomaterials, so you’ll be in good company.
- Ask Questions – Don’t hesitate to raise your hand during Q&A or chat with presenters afterward. Thoughtful questions show engagement and help you stand out.
- Attend the Student Luncheon, Workshops or Student Mixer – Be sure to purchase a ticket for any of these events. It’s one of the best ways to meet other students, exchange experiences, and start building lasting connections.
- Visit the Exhibit Hall – Take time to explore. You’ll see the latest technologies, meet industry reps, and maybe even find a future internship or career path.
- Bring Business Cards (or a QR Code) – It may feel old-school, but exchanging cards or sharing your LinkedIn makes it easier for new contacts to remember you.
- Wear Comfortable Shoes – You’ll be walking between sessions, posters, and exhibits—comfort is key to keeping your energy up.
- Have Your Elevator Pitch Ready – Prepare a quick 20–30 second introduction about your research interests or career goals. It’s a great way to make a memorable impression.
- Take Notes & Follow Up – Jot down insights, contacts, and ideas. After the meeting, send a short email or LinkedIn message to people you connected with—it leaves a lasting impression.
- Enjoy the Experience – Beyond the science, take time to soak in the atmosphere, connect with peers, and explore Atlanta. You’re now part of a global biomaterials community!
